Hi I’m Amy Zimmerman, I’m Glad You’re Here
Why Choose Therapy? Why Choose Me?
Life can be hard! Relationships can be hard! Parenting is hard! Being an adolescent is hard! You don’t have to navigate your struggles alone. There are skills you can learn to feel more hopeful, more in control, more connected to others, and more connected to your true self.
I draw upon a variety of research based and trauma informed modalities, including expressive therapies, to empower you with the deep and lasting change for which you are longing.
I see individuals ages 9-99 as well as couples and families. I offer virtual appointments to residents of Maryland and diplomats living outside of the U.S.

The frequency of appointments depends on your goals and needs. Weekly appointments are recommended for at least the first few months to facilitate momentum and change. Ultimately, it’s up to you, and some therapy is better than no therapy.
-
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)- addresses primary feelings and needs in relationships based on Attachment Theory.
The Gottman Method- Based on research of thousands of videos of couples, John and Julie Gottman have developed communication strategies to help couples turn toward each other rather than away.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)- focuses on emotional regulation, coping skills, emotional expression and mindfulness
Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)- looks at the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It brings thoughts into consciousness to challenge or reframe them.
Polyvagal Theory- Looks at how trauma has impacted our nervous system/stress response and how our conscious awareness of this autonomic response can help us retrain our brain to feel more safe.
Bonny Method Guided Imagery and Music (GIM)- this technique uses music to process emotions and elicit client guided imagery that promotes healing and wholeness in accordance to your “intention” (i.e. to be more open to connection; to feel heard and seen, sit with grief, etc). This journey can unleash the wisdom of our psyche and create lasting healing and change.
